Obituary for Edwin W. Meredith

Edwin W.  Meredith
Edwin W. Meredith, 91, of Bernville, passed away Wednesday March 15th in his residence.

Ed was married to Dorothy S. (Groff) Meredith. Ed and Dorothy were married November 9, 1946 and celebrated seventy loving years of marriage.

Born in Stouchsburg, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Keeney) Meredith.

He was a member of St. Thomas Church in Bernville where he was a former deacon.

He served in the Navy during WW II on the U. S. S. Quincy as a gunner, obtaining the rank of Seaman First Class.

He was formerly employed by Glidden Paints in Reading and E. J. Lavino Furnace in Sheridan.

He was formerly sexton for Little Tulpehocken Church and cemetery. He was caretaker and on the cemetery board at Haags Cemetery and St. Thomas Cemetery for a combined fifty years.

For many years Ed was a faithful and dedicated employee at the Kirkhoff Funeral Home.

He was an Assistant Scout Master of Troop No. 422. He was a member of the Bernville Lions Club where he was a past president, the Bernville American Legion, and Bernville Borough Council.

He enjoyed jig saw puzzles and was well known for his Christmas train yard which he displayed in his home.

Additional survivors include his children, Terry L. Meredith and wife Carol of Wernersville, Linda L. Meredith and partner Beverly of Delaware, Ohio, Rita M. Boor and partner Tom Graver of Mohrsville, and Michele R. Unger and husband Rick of Wernersville. Ed is predeceased by a son, Edwin Meredith, Jr. who passed away in 1981.

There are six grandchildren, Christopher Meredith and wife Christina, Zachery Meredith and wife Jenny, Joshua Meredith and wife Tabitha, Meredith Donaldson and husband Jason, Marc Dries and wife Lindsay, and Steven Unger and wife Heather.

Also, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

There is a sister, Florence Moyer and husband Jean of Camp Hill and a brother Charles Meredith and wife Rozie of Womelsdorf. He is predeceased by a brother, Lee Meredith.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 21st at 1 pm in St. Thomas Church, 536 N. Main St., Bernville with Rev. Arlan Bond officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in Bernville.

A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6 until 8 pm in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main St. Bernville and Tuesday from noon until 12:45 pm in St. Thomas Church.
